About Us

Tampa Bay BNA

History

The Tampa Bay Chapter proudly joined the National Black Nurses Association (NBNA) as a constituent chapter in advancing the organization’s mission and objectives. Founded in 1971 by Dr. Lauranne Sams, NBNA was established to investigate, define, determine, and respond to the healthcare needs of Black Americans and other underserved populations while promoting equitable healthcare for all. The Tampa Bay Chapter was officially inducted on August 10, 1988, and has remained committed to NBNA’s legacy of advocacy, leadership, and service.

Mission

To positively impact the health and well-being of underserved, uninsured, and disadvantaged communities by providing health education, preventive health screenings, community outreach, and access to quality healthcare resources.

Goal

To advocate for and promote high-quality, accessible, equitable, and affordable healthcare while empowering individuals and communities to achieve optimal health outcomes through education, prevention, and collaboration.

Whatever adversely affects BLACK PEOPLE, wherever they may be, whoever they may be, affects us all.
